Phennec On The Grind

There are two major steps to creating a Phennec Case and extra steps for the custom plates.

1. Ordering a case that fits your device: Because we are a startup company, we order or cases 1 at a time instead of having inventory sitting around. This means that there is a bit of a delay in getting your case to you as we have to wait for it to arrive at our location. From there, it's mounted on a CNC to cut the "pocket" where the plate sits.

2. Milling of the plates: We work with a major aluminum manufacturer to create our plates! This ensures that our plates are made to the tight tolerances we have and high quality control.

3. Customization/Coloring: If you choose to customize your plate, we work closely with the aluminum manufacturer to make sure your design is capable of being done in a manner that reflects your image submission. Coloring the plates is done in a meticulous manner with lacquer plates to ensure they're resistant to chipping/peeling. The paint is dropped into the design and any excess that runs over is removed with a utility blade.

Being transparent in our process is our goal, if you have any questions please reach out!

Cutting The Case

In this video, a pocket is being cut into a case in order to fit the plate. This takes place in a garage here in South Texas! We do our best to "square" the case to ensure the plate is parallel with the rest of the case. But since it's done by eye, your case may not be perfectly centered as it would with a mass manufactured product. Rest assured though, we will never ship a product that doesn't represent the quality we strive for!

Cutting & Customizing The Plate

Our plates are cut by a major aluminum manufacturer in McAllen TX. This ensures that the plates are cut to our specifications and go through a quality control process before being handed to Phennec. They're also the ones that laser engrave the logos into our plates.

Adding Color To Plates

Color is added to the plates in the same garage that the cases are cut! We use a lacquer-based paint which is a hardened paint that resists chipping/peeling. If any running happens over the design, we meticulously remove it with a utility knife. As with all our process, the color is scrutinized to make sure you're happy with the result!
